When To Visit

Mikumi National Park offers splendid wildlife viewing all year, with the optimal period being late June to October, during the dry season. During these months, thinner vegetation and dwindling water sources draw large herds to waterholes, enhancing wildlife spotting. For bird enthusiasts, November to February is the ideal time to visit.

It's home to a diverse array of wildlife, including four of the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, and leopards. The park's Mkata floodplain is a hotspot for game viewing, offering spectacular wildlife encounters.

Mikumi National Park is situated in the Morogoro region, nestled between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range. It lies approximately 288 kilometres west of Dar-es-Salaam and 107 kilometres from Morogoro town, making it easily accessible by road.

Mikumi National Park boasts a variety of trees, including baobabs, tamarinds, and rare palm trees. The park is also characterized by miombo woodlands, swamps, and ravine forests, contributing to its diverse ecosystem.

The optimal time to visit Mikumi National Park is during the dry season, from June to October. This period offers easier wildlife spotting due to thinner vegetation and animals congregating around waterholes.

Mikumi is home to a variety of animals including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and a wide range of antelopes. The park's Mkata floodplain is particularly known for large herds of buffaloes and elephants.
